Troy fell to the Boise State Broncos 24-13 in the kickoff to a much-anticipated kickoff of the 2017 season.

The Broncos jumped out to an early lead, scoring on an 81-yard punt return for a touchdown even before the Broncos could run their first offensive play. Troy bounced back with a field goal before the first quarter expired, put them behind 7-3 heading into the second quarter.

Troy made their first trip to the endzone when cornerback Blace Brown took an interception all the way for six points.

It was their last trip there for the day.

The Broncos were able to tack on 10 points in the second quarter to send the teams to the locker rooms with a 17-10 halftime Bronco lead.

Following the halftime break, defensive plays highlighted a scoreless third quarter, paving the way for a nail-biting fourth quarter of play. Troy chipped into the Bronco lead when the offense tacked on a field goal midway through the third, but Boise State answered with a score of their own to put the game on ice.

The Broncos scored with 2:12 remaining to go up 24-13, the eventual final score. Troy was unable to answer within the final two minutes as Boise State gained possession just in time to run the clock down.

Troy returns to Veterans Memorial Stadium for the first home game of the season, hosting Alabama State next Saturday at 5 p.m.
