In a bench clearing effort, the Trojans raged against Louisiana-Lafayette last Saturday Feb. 2 2013 on Maestri Court in a lopsided 71-52 victory.

The Trojans spread the love against the Ragin’ Cajuns with nine different players scoring at least four points in the game.

“I think that is when we are at our best,” senior guard Emil Jones said. “They can’t key in on one guy, and, when everybody is contributing, we are hard to beat.”

Tevin Calhoun led the Trojans with his 15 points and his wicked 3-point stroke.

Calhoun was clutch from beyond the arch with three 3-pointers, while his teammate Westley Hinton was 2-2 on 3-pointers.

It was midway in the second half when Troy started to run away with the game, and all Louisiana-Lafayette could do was try to catch up.

When Jeff Mullahey drained a 3-poiner to make it 48-37, the Trojan faithful got excited.

As the fans settled into their seats, the Trojans stole the ball from the Cajuns, and Deonata Jethroe was suddenly sprinting down the court with the basket in sight.

“I mean once I got the break away I already had it in my head that I was going to dunk,” Jethro said. “It was my first dunk playing Division I basketball.”

Jethro’s electrifying dunk made the crowd explode, and the score was 52-37 Troy.

The Trojans kept the heat on the Cajuns, as Calhoun drained a 3-pointer to put Troy up 18.

“This was probably our best overall game of the year because we played both ends of the court very well.” Troy coach Don Maestri said. “I thought our guys kept them on defense a lot longer than they wanted to be on defense.”

Troy improved to 10-13 overall and 5-7 in the Sun Belt with the 71-52 win.
