The Student Government Association is getting ready for an election to fill senator seats this spring. This election will replace people who resigned from their position and will fill seats that were empty from the fall.

The elections are being held in January 28 at Trojan Center Room 215 from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Each position available represents the dorms and colleges. The available seats include 1 for Cowart Hall, 1 for Gardner Hall, 1 for Hamil, 1 for Pace, 1 for the sorority houses, 2 for the College of Education, 1 for the College of Communications and Fine Arts, 1 for College of Health and Human Services and 1 free spot for any student.

Each applicant must have a 2.6 GPA. The application is due by January 23 at 4 p.m. and must be submitted at the SGA office.

Ryan Cole, a junior political science major from Athens and current SGA clerk said, “I just encourage more people to come out and vote and come out and run because I would love to see every residence hall’s representative so that they will be able to hold the hall meetings and see how people want to improve in the residence halls and how SGA can help. “

Troy’s annual leadership conference will be held Feb. 6 and 7 at 6:30 p.m. in Sartain Hall, an event celebrating African-American History month. According to Troy’s website, the conference brings “individuals together to promote dialogue that fosters multicultural collaboration to strengthen relationships and empower diverse leaders with the tools to better serve their organization and community.”

This year’s conference theme is “A Century of Achievement: A Salute to African-American History and Culture.” Hill Harper will be the keynote speaker. Harper is best known for his roles on “CSI:NY” and “Covert Affairs.”
