A new incentive to joining the Trojan community is currently in the works. The Student Government Association, the Pike County Chamber of Commerce and local businesses are teaming up to create a student discount cards that students can purchase and receive discounts from venues in the Troy area.

The main goal of this card will be to provide a means for the students of Troy University to better afford food, entertainment and living expenses during their time in Troy.

While the specifics of the card are not complete, there is some information about the project out there for the students.

These cards will be sold on campus for $5 and will probably become available mid-February. The discounts that will be given will vary from store to store.

As stated above, there is no set-in-stone list of venues that will be participating in the project, but as of right now Mamma Goldberg’s Deli and Cotton Creek Clothing Company have both agreed to take part in the project.

“Currently, we’re working with the Pike County Chamber of Commerce to recruit businesses to support card use. Ideally, we’d like to have at least 25 popular businesses in the Troy area to support the card, but we’re obviously shooting for a lot more,” Will Thompson, SGA president, said.

These cards will hopefully benefit not only the students of Troy University, but also help local businesses thrive.

“The student discount card program is a great way for our students to support local businesses, all while providing them with discounts that make paying for food and other living expenses a little easier,” Thompson said.

More information concerning the discount cards and updates on their progress will be available in the next few weeks.
