Throwers lead the way for track and field at the Florida Relays

Michael Shipma Sports Editor The Troy University track and field team participated in the Florida Relays hosted by Florida University in Gainesville, Florida, from March 31 to April 2. The Trojans’ throwers once again were the leaders for Troy in the event, which featured nationally-ranked men and women’s teams from the SEC, ACC and Big Ten. Masters leads men’s golf team to 10th place in Awendaw

Michael Shipma Sports Editor The No. 53 Troy men’s golf team used a solid final day of play to earn a 10th place finish in the Hootie at Bulls Bay Intercollegiate tournament hosted by South Carolina. The 15-team invitational was played over the course of three days from April 3-5 at the Bulls Bay Golf Club in Awendaw, South Carolina. Women’s hoops earns spot in SBC title game

Michael Shipma Sports Editor For the second time in school history, the Troy women’s basketball team will play for a Sun Belt Conference Championship. After defeating top-seeded Arkansas State 96-89 in the conference championship semifinals, the Trojans will advance to their first Sun Belt Championship game since 1997. The win at Lakefront Arena in New Orleans was Troy’s seventh straight. Michael Shipma Sports Editor The Troy softball team used solid pitching and a stifling defense to sweep its own Trojan Warrior Tournament, defeating Dayton twice, as well as Missouri State, Austin Peay and Mercer. The tournament, which played from Feb. 26-Feb. 28, saw the Trojans (12-4, 0-0 Sun Belt) holding each of their opponents to just three runs or fewer. It picked up wins against Eastern Michigan, Evansville and Alabama State, but dropped its game against Marshall. Troy student-athletes to be awarded cost of attendance stipends

Michael Shipma Sports Editor Troy University student-athletes will now be able to receive cost-of-attendance stipends starting this semester, Athletic Director Jeremy McClain announced last week. As of last year, the NCAA announced that it would allow universities to pay athletes in order to cover costs of living not covered by athletic scholarships. According to McClain, student-athletes at Troy will be offered $3,000 per year to cover these costs, with the money being divided into two checks per semester for a total of four.
