Cross country teams both take ninth place

Jill Odom Sports Editor The cross-country team traveled to Mobile on Sunday, Nov. 2, and participated in the Sun Belt Cross Country Championships. The men’s and women’s teams both took home ninth place. In the women’s 5K, sophomore Mikayla Hodges set a personal-best time of 18:19.2, while leading the Trojans in 29th place. Cross country travels to compete at Tuscaloosa

Jill Odom Sports Editor The Troy cross-country team traveled to Tuscaloosa to compete in the Crimson Classic on Friday, Oct. 17. The event was a “Power of Pink” event and was part of the annual Breast Cancer Awareness Month that takes place in October. The women’s team placed 22nd place overall out of 33 competitors, including Sun Belt rivals South Alabama, Georgia State and Louisiana-Monroe. The team finished with a score of 582 points. Troy took fourth place out of seven competitors in the women’s 5k race. Junior Julia Ostendorf set a new personal best with a time of 18:40.68, while coming in fifth place. Wally Pendergrass Staff Writer  The Trojans’ cross country teams participated in the Mountain Dew Invitational at Gainesville, Florida, which was hosted by the University of Florida on Sept. 20. The men’s team placed eighth, and the women’s team finished 11th. The event featured 29 colleges and universities, with over 250 runners competing in both the men’s and women’s events. The women finished the 6K race with a time of 2:02:52, trailing South Alabama by 10 seconds. The Trojans were competing against the Auburn Tigers and the South Alabama Jaguars.   Michael Shipma Staff Writer   Troy Director of Track and Field/Cross Country Marc Davis announced that Elliott Blount has been appointed the new cross country head coach as of Thursday, Aug. 14. Before arriving at Troy, Blount was an assistant coach at Columbia University, where he worked primarily with the Lions’ middle distance group.
