Men’s tennis drops pair of Florida matches

Ty Ammons Staff Writer The Troy University men’s tennis team traveled to Florida this weekend to play the University of Miami and FSU. Troy fell in another tight match against the Hurricanes, losing 4-3 on Saturday, Jan. 30, but the Sunday match with the Seminoles was not as close. The Trojans lost 4-1. Senior Daniel Bustamante had a great match against the No. 23 player in the country, beating sophomore Piotr Lomacki 6-4, 6-2. Troy tennis wraps up its fall season in Orlando

Ty Ammons Staff Writer The Troy men’s and women’s tennis teams competed at the USTA Collegiate Clay Court Invitational on Nov. 5-8 in Orlando, Florida. The first day at the tournament went well for the Trojans, as they lost only three matches. Troy brought a total of 10 players to the tournament. Men’s and women’s teams shine in Nola

Ty Ammons Staff Writer Troy University’s men’s and women’s tennis teams traveled to participate in the Big Easy Tennis Classic on Friday, October 23. The Troy men’s team sent 11 players, with nine of them making it past their first match at the tournament. Sophomore Andy Lau did not have a match in singles flight four until the semifinals, and won in a walkover. Samaha shines, leads Troy tennis in T-Town

Ty Ammons Staff Writer The Troy men’s tennis team opened up play on Thursday, Oct. 15, in Tuscaloosa at the USTA/ITA Southern Regional Championships. Four of the Trojan men competed in this tournament, along with seven from the women’s team. Junior Pablo Moreno was the only Trojan from the men’s team who had to play a first-round match, while the other three got first-round byes. Men’s tennis competes in season opener in Tulsa

Ty Ammons Staff Writer The Troy men’s tennis team started individual competition this past week at the Saint Francis Health System ITA Men’s All-American Championship. Senior Giovani Samaha participated in Round 1 of the pre-qualifying draw. He beat his opponent, freshman Reese Stalder from TCU, 6-4, 4-6, 6-2. Six more Trojans competed in the tournament, playing in the second round of the pre-qualifying competition. Troy is starting new this year, as there are a lot of new faces on the team.
