Win factor: Who really needs new stuff?

Michael Shipma Sports Editor For as long as anyone can remember, the South has had a perpetual love affair with the sport of football. Not that that’s a bad thing, of course. I cherish Saturdays in the fall as much as the next guy, but what could we possibly be missing in our tunnel vision that’s so fully focused on football? Troy soccer opens regular season with win, loss

Scott McLendon Staff Writer The Trojan soccer team split its first two regular season games of 2016, defeating Gardner-Webb 2-0 on Friday and losing to Samford by the same margin on Sunday. Troy (1-1, 0-0 Sun Belt) put the pressure on the Runnin’ Bulldogs (0-1-1, 0-0 Big South) early, tallying seven shots in the first half. Despite the Trojans’ aggressive offensive play, they went into the locker room without a goal and a tied game. That all changed nine minutes into the second half when sophomore forward Brooke McKee buried […]

Trojan keeper looks to fans for support in 2016

Taylor Boydstun Staff Writer Of 11 players named to the Sun Belt Preseason All-Conference Team, only one is a goalkeeper, and only one attends Troy University. Mikki Lewis fills both categories. As of Tuesday, Aug. 16, the junior has been selected for the prestigious list for her second consecutive year. While the psychology major from St. Johns, Florida, is honored to have received such an award, she insists that her success is due primarily to the supporting defense. “I was the only player from Troy that was named,” Lewis said, […]
