Softball not worried about depth in 2017

Scott Watkins Staff Writer The Troy softball team is set to begin its 2017 season following Head Coach Beth Mullins’ second winning season in two years as coach. The Trojans return 11 players while adding two transfers and four freshmen, including Grace Mirly, who was three-time All-State in her home state of Missouri. The Trojans have welcomed many new faces recently, with a new head coach and several new players stepping onboard the program. Trojan softball wins one of two games at home

Wesley Kirchharr Staff Writer The Troy softball team picked up a win in a fall doubleheader on Friday, cruising past Gulf Coast State College 7-3 and finishing with a 1-1 tie against Auburn University at Montgomery. Sophomore pitcher Peyton Glover picked up the win in game one for the Trojans (4-1-1, 0-0 Sun Belt), allowing no runs during her six innings in the circle. Softball rolls at home in fall doubleheader

Wesley Kirchharr Staff Writer The Troy softball team picked up two wins in a fall doubleheader, topping Northwest Florida 2-0 and 5-1 on the Charles Henderson High School softball field. Sophomore pitcher Claire Graves won game one for the Trojans (3-1, 0-0 Sun Belt), allowing no hits and recording eight strikeouts during her seven innings in the circle. Michael Shipma Sports Editor Senior right fielder Hannah Day has been selected by the Akron Racers in the 2016 National Pro Fastpitch (NPF) Senior Draft. The softball draft was held at the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum in Nashville, Tennessee. Day, who was selected by the Racers with the fourth pick in the fifth round, or 30th overall, currently owns a .343 batting percentage and a .745 slugging percentage with just nine regular season games remaining.
