Cano, women’s golf earn first place in Samford Intercollegiate

Michael Shipma Sports Editor The Troy women’s golf team earned its second team title of the season on Tuesday, March 22, placing first out of 10 teams at the Samford Collegiate. Fatima Cano led the Trojans at the two-day event, which was held at the Greystone Golf and Country Club in Birmingham, with a school-record 8-under-par performance. The junior’s performance was enough to win first place individually, her third first-place finish in just six tournament appearances this season. Women’s golf finishes strong, gets ninth at 3M Augusta

Scott McLendon Staff Writer Troy’s women’s golf team ascended the leaderboard during Saturday’s final two rounds of the 3M Augusta Invitational, earning them ninth out of 16 teams at the event. The strong finish was also enough to earn the Trojans ninth place among 11 teams ranked in the top 100 in the nation. Sunday’s threat of rain forced 36 holes to be played on Saturday. Troy earns first place finish at Chris Banister Golf Classic

Taylor Boydstun Staff Writer The Troy Trojans women’s golf team won first place at the Chris Banister Golf Classic at the Silver Lakes Golf Course, which took place Sept. 28-29 in Glencoe. This is the fifth time the Trojans have won in the past 14 tournaments. Troy’s overall score was 314-300-307—921, followed by Morehead State University with a total score of 312-307-306—925. Michael Shipma Sports Editor The Troy women’s golf team struggled in its season opener at the Schooner Fall Classic this past weekend, finishing 11th place in the 12-team tournament in Norman, Oklahoma. Junior Fatima Fernandez Cano led the Trojans, tying for 19th overall with a 1-over-143 finish. Cano finished with five birdies in a 1-under-70 performance in the tournament. Women’s golf wins John Kirk/Panther Intercollegiate title

Wally Pendergrass Staff Writer The Troy women’s golf team won the John Kirk/Panther Intercollegiate on Tuesday, March 31, while the men’s golf team finished third in the Furman Intercollegiate on Sunday, March 29. The women’s golf team beat out Middle Tennessee State on the final day, shooting an 892, while the rival Blue Raiders finished with an 897.
