Annual Can Castle Contest helps local kids with food insecurity

Tierra McCall Staff Writer  The offices of Civic Engagement and Student Involvement recently partnered to hold the annual Can Castle Contest.  The food drive, held at Tailgate Terrace, collected more than 7,000 supplemental food items for the Backpacks for Kids program – a partnership between Civic Engagement and Freshman Forum.  Student volunteers pack bags weekly during fall and spring semesters and deliver them biweekly to kids in the Pike County area.  Student groups, organizations and athletic teams were encouraged to participate in the Can Castle Contest this year by donating…

Classes cancelled due to severe weather threat

All classes at Troy University’s Alabama campuses will be closed starting at 5 p.m on Wednesday, March 17 due to the threat of severe weather. Beginning at 6 p.m., students will be able to shelter at the Trojan Center on Troy’s campus. Students who live in residence halls are encouraged to shelter there. Faculty and students will not be penalized for absences due to severe weather conditions. Amya Mitchell News Editor Troy University’s Tropolitan staff is partnering with students at the University of Ljubljana in Slovenia to bring a new perspective to both student publications. Beginning with this edition of The Tropolitan, students in Slovenia will contribute to the newspaper by writing articles such as perspective pieces and music and literature reviews. In return, the Tropolitan staff will provide content to the school in Slovenia.
