The Troy men’s golf team struggled at the Mason Rudolph Championship in Franklin, Tennessee, over the weekend, dropping to 13th place out of 15 teams which included three top-10 teams.
This competition marked the final regular season tournament for the Trojans, who now look forward to the four-day Sun Belt Conference Championship in Sandestin, Florida. The final round of the two-day tournament was postponed from its original schedule on Saturday to a day later due to weather.
No. 4 Vanderbilt took control of the competition on Sunday, using four top-20 individual finishes to take the overall title.
Calum Masters led the Trojans with a 6-over par showing through three rounds of play, earning him a tie for 27th place on a top-heavy individual leaderboard. Twenty-three spots — but only six shots behind Masters — was teammate Mac Murphy, who used back-to-back rounds of 3-over to secure a spot on the fringes of the top 50.
Connor Futrell carded two 4-over rounds to start the tournament, but slipped in the standings after a 6-over round on the final day of play.
Dean Martin and Jake Tiffin rounded out the Trojans in the competition finishing 15 and 27 shots over par, respectively.
With the regular season now over, Troy will have little time to prepare for the conference championship tournament at The Raven Golf Club. Play is scheduled to start Sunday.
