The Troy women’s basketball team (17-5, 8-3 Sun Belt) hit the road last weekend to face Arkansas’ Sun Belt duo of Little Rock and Arkansas State. Troy topped the Red Wolves, but fell to Little Rock, the team with the best conference record (14-8, 10-1 Sun Belt).
Troy lost to the Trojans of Little Rock on Thursday in a tight 72-76 loss, but were able to leave Arkansas on a good note after getting the win against Arkansas State (9-13, 4-7 Sun Belt) on Saturday.
It was a tough night for the Trojans from behind the 3-point line against Little Rock. Troy shot just 19 percent from three and 36 percent as a team on the night.
Despite poor shooting, Troy managed to keep the game within reach.
Troy rallied back after being down by 11 points with less than a minute left and had the opportunity to tie the game.
Trojan fans were hopeful when Jasmine Robinson looked as if she stole the ball, but Robinson was called back by a foul which led to a Little Rock free throw to put the game on ice.
Two days later, the Trojans traveled to Jonesboro to take on Arkansas State.
Troy bounced back with a 51 percent shooting performance from three with 14 total 3-pointers in 100-89 win.
Troy’s bench contributed 58 points compared to the Red wolves 23 which was a key factor in the win.
Kayla Robinson chipped in 16 and three 3-pointers after her tough game against Little Rock. Amber Rivers led her team in minutes and also put in double digits with 15 points on 5-10 shooting.
The Trojans will take the court this Thursday at home against Georgia State at 6 p.m.
