With the win, the Trojans improved to a winning record of 4-3.  In the first game of the series, the Trojans struck first with a pair of runs following a bases-loaded hit-by-pitch and a sacrifice fly by Chase Smartt. Scott Shelton Staff Writer The Troy baseball team split its opening-weekend series at Riddle-Pace Field against Central Michigan, using late-game heroics to win the first two before dropping the final two games. In the first game, both teams’ pitchers put on a clinic. Sophomore pitcher Levi Thomas struck out three batters before the Chippewas were able to get a hit on the board. The Trojans then faced in-state powerhouse Alabama on Tuesday, but they fell to the Crimson Tide 4-3.
