Men’s golf falls behind at The Old Waverly Collegiate Championship

Wally Pendergrass Staff Writer The men’s golf team struggled in its final event before the Sun Belt Championships, shooting an 884 and finishing in 13th place in The Old Waverly Collegiate Championship. The Trojans had to overcome a rough start as they shot a 300 on the first 18 holes. The Trojans shot better on the last 36 holes, with a 291 and a 284. Women’s golf wins John Kirk/Panther Intercollegiate title

Wally Pendergrass Staff Writer The Troy women’s golf team won the John Kirk/Panther Intercollegiate on Tuesday, March 31, while the men’s golf team finished third in the Furman Intercollegiate on Sunday, March 29. The women’s golf team beat out Middle Tennessee State on the final day, shooting an 892, while the rival Blue Raiders finished with an 897. On top of winning the team event, sophomore Fatima Fernandez Cano won the individual title, shooting a 210 for the event. She carded an eagle and five birdies during her final round.…

Women’s basketball earns postseason slot for WBI

Wally Pendergrass Staff Writer The Trojan women’s basketball team earned a second chance and will play against Mercer in Macon, Georgia, Thursday, March 19, in its second ever postseason game in school history. The Trojans are the No. 5 seed in the East Bracket of the Women’s Basketball Invitational, which is a 16-team tournament for teams who were not selected for the NCAA Tournament. Wally Pendergrass Staff Writer The Trojans’ women’s basketball team extended its win streak to seven this week, while senior forward Ronita Garrett picked up another Sun Belt Conference Player of the Week award. Garrett, who also was named CollegeSportsMadness.com’s Sun Belt Player of the Week, had two more double-doubles last week in Troy’s two wins. Wally Pendergrass Staff Writer The Troy women’s basketball team extended its winning streak to five games, knocking off conference leader UALR, while junior guard Ashley Beverly-Kelley earned both conference and national awards. Beverly-Kelley was named Sun Belt Conference Player of the Week and was also named National Mid-Major Player of the Week by CollegeSportsMadness.com, on Monday, Feb. 24.
