Wally Pendergrass Staff Writer The Troy women’s basketball team grabbed a pair of wins this past week and a nice steak dinner, courtesy of John Hartwell, Troy’s athletic director. Hartwell announced on his Twitter account Thursday, Feb. 12, that he would provide a steak dinner to any team that defeated rival South Alabama. Wally Pendergrass Staff Writer The Troy women’s basketball team hit triple digits for the first time this season in a win over Appalachian State, after losing earlier in the week to Arkansas State. The Trojans faced the second place Red Wolves in Jonesboro, Arkansas, on Thursday, Feb. 5, where they were unable to overcome a first half 20-2 run. On Thursday, Jan. 29, Troy pummeled ULM in the Trojan Arena with a final score of 90-51. The Trojans used their ferocious defense to get a school record 23 steals while forcing 39 turnovers overall. Wally Pendergrass Staff Writer The Troy women’s basketball team’s six-game winning streak was snapped this week as the Trojans lost to conference leader UALR on Thursday, Jan. 22, and at home against Arkansas State on Saturday, Jan. 24. Wally Pendergrass Staff Writer The women’s basketball team extended its winning streak to six this week, behind strong second-half efforts in all three of its matches. The Trojans had an amazing week that resulted in junior guard Ashley Beverly-Kelley scoring her 1,000th point and has the team off to its best conference start since the ’96-97 season, when the team made its only NCAA Tournament appearance.
