The Troy women’s basketball team brought home two victories this weekend.
The Trojans faced Texas State and Louisiana for Sun Belt conference games.
The Trojans traveled to Strahan Arena in San Marcos, Texas, giving Texas a home court advantage that would soon prove to not be enough to hold off the Trojans. The four quarters were 10 minutes of intense performance from both teams. Texas State took the lead in the first three quarters as Troy fought to catch up. The Trojans dropped 26 points in the final quarter, leaving Texas State five points behind.
Tai’sheka Porchia, a junior at Troy, set a new career high in points during this game, doubling her average from her previous season at Pensacola State. Alongside Porchia were juniors Makayla Hallmon and Ja’mia Hollings, who scored a combined 30 points against Texas State. The Trojans collectively took down Texas State by using their skills together as a team to gain the advantage.
Louisiana played host to the second game of the weekend for the Trojans at the Cajun Dome, in Lafayette, Louisiana. The first four quarters were extremely close and ended with a tie, resulting in overtime. The Trojans did not hold back during overtime and beat the Rajun Cajuns by one point.
Porchia had another great performance, scoring the game-winning point, along with 12 rebounds throughout the game. Makayla Hallmon also had a nice game ending by scoring 20 points, a new career high for her during a game. Nia Daniels, a junior, supplied the Trojans with a grand total of 19 points in the game.
The Trojans’ current four-game winning streak will hopefully follow them to their next game this Thursday at home against Arkansas State.
