Georgia Southern, the school from Statesboro, Ga., is proud of its football program’s history over the years.

The Eagles have won six NCAA Division I-AA National Championships starting back in 1985 when the team went (13-2).

Georgia Southern would win it all again in 1986 with an identical record of (13-2).

The Eagles are likely to win in pairs because they took two more FCS National Championships in 1989 going (15-0) and 1990 finishing (12-3).

It was a surprise to no one when Georgia Southern took home its 5th national championship in 1999. With now Georgia Tech coach Paul Johnson, the Eagles went back to back for a third time with a championship in 2000.

The Eagles have two players currently in NFL, most notably Tennessee Titans place-kicker, Rob Bironas.

Georgia Southern moving to Sun Belt brings back a classic matchup with Troy that dates back to the schools’ first meeting in 1934.

The Trojans have gotten the best of the Eagles over the years winning 10 out of 13 meetings with the last game back in 1995 that Georgia Southern won 24-21 in NCAA I-AA playoffs.

The Eagles went (10-4) last season and they look to shock the SEC with a 2013 upset over the Florida Gators on Nov. 23.
