Athletics plans to elevate 'excellence'

by Rylee Bamberger

Elevate is Troy University’s new strategic plan for Troy Athletics.

Elevate is a comprehensive strategic plan that addresses how Troy Athletics will achieve excellence on the field and in the classroom. Troy Athletic Director Brent Jones said the plan complements Troy Athletics’ Four Pillars of Success: Winning in the Classroom, Winning in the Community, Winning on the Field and Winning in the Stands.

“ELEVATE will serve as the guiding vision from which we will continue to strive to new heights as an Athletics Department,” Jones said. “As we navigate a transformative era in intercollegiate athletics, this strategic plan will enable us to maintain our status as leaders within the Sun Belt Conference as well as among the Group of Five.”

With the implementation of Elevate, Troy Athletics’ goal is to be viewed as a top 10 Group of 5 athletics program.

"Accordingly, we have invested in our facilities and our people in order to attain our goals," said Troy University Chancellor Dr. Jack Hawkins Jr. "I am confident our facilities are among the best in the Sun Belt Conference. Moreover, our coaching staffs are filled with outstanding leaders and teachers."

Elevate has already been implemented in the athletic department’s decisions, such as the hires of soccer head coach Stuart Gore and softball head coach Eric Newell, and football head coach Jon Sumrall’s four-year extension.

The athletic department has also announced that some ongoing and future events on Elevate’s roadmap include finishing the $12 million renovation to Riddle-Pace Field, planning renovations to the Lunsford Tennis Complex and the Colley Track & Soccer Complex, construction for an indoor practice facility, and upgrading all of the video boards and sound systems in the athletic facilities.

With major investments being made to the athletic facilities, attendance and improving game day atmospheres are of a major importance to the athletic department. According to Troy’s official press release about the program, Troy athletics will “work directly with student leaders to form a leadership council focused on maximizing student involvement and providing feedback for game day experiences.”

“As we begin this journey together, I thank all of you in advance for the part that you will play in the continued growth of Troy Athletics,” Jones said. “Together, we will continue to invest in the success of our programs and provide a transformative student-athlete experience for the men and women that represent Troy University on the competition fields.”
