Troy University offers many campus ministry opportunities for students to get plugged into. One campus ministry offered on Troy's campus is Baptist Campus Ministries (BCM).

BCM is led by campus minister, Brad Bensinger, who has been campus minister for the past 28 years.

“It’s just a joy to see students growing in their relationship with God and to see lives change,” Bensinger said.

“Our goal is to share the love of Jesus Christ, help students understand the story of God’s love and how that can change their life.

“We work with students, God works in their lives and we get to send them out into the real world to keep sharing God’s love.”

BCM offers many opportunities and events for students to come to and connect with others. One main event BCM holds every semester is their Table Tennis Tournament.

BCM held the tournament two weeks ago despite the heavy snowfall.

“At the end of our snow apocalypse, we considered canceling along with everything else, but we decided students were bored and looking for something to do, so we wanted to go ahead and do it,” Bensinger said.

Over 25 students came out despite the snow and participated in the table tennis tournament. The tournament was broken up into two divisions, crowning one winner and one runner up from each bracket.

“It's just a fun event to gather folks together, to enjoy and make new friendships,” Bensinger said.

“I always tell my students to get involved and get connected somewhere on campus; a lot of your education is going to be outside of the classroom, developing relationships with people you have common interests with.

“Go out and find student organizations that can benefit you and help you benefit others.”

BCM offers weekly dinners for students on Tuesday nights at 6 p.m. prior to their worship service, 90 Degrees, at 7 p.m. The meals are provided by local churches in the community.

BCM offers a variety of fun events such as weekly game nights, small group bible studies, campus outreach, dance nights, film festivals, table tennis club, mission work and so much more.

“That is something that is so important for college students, to be able to have those vulnerable relationships where you can keep each other accountable and grow together along this crazy journey that’s college,” Julia Smith, a freshman elementary education major from Prattville, Alabama who serves on BCM’s worship team.

“That's what I love about our small groups because I get to talk to these other girls about my struggles,

"I really encourage anyone who's looking for a good group to try campus ministries.”

BCM is also offering new mentoring opportunities this semester.

“You can get someone to mentor you, or you can be a mentor to someone younger than you who needs some encouragement,” said Kassidy Knight, a junior rehab and disabilities major from Dothan, Alabama. Knight is also the current communications chair for BCM.

“We have so many opportunities, events and fundraisers we do to support the missionaries we send out.”

Students with the BCM have had opportunities to do mission work in Texas, Cincinnati, Romania and many other places.

BCM is currently working with Delight Ministries to do a Galentine’s Night for girls on Feb.

13 along with a guy’s hangout night. A missions trip is also planned for students to go to Delaware during spring break to serve the community.
