Bid Day was a rush of success

New sorority members ran home to their forever sisters on Sorority Hill Saturday morning in the annual Bid Day tradition.

Bid Day is the day all new members anticipate the most.

Prior to Bid Day, each potential new member experiences Rush Week, where the girls go through several rounds of interviews, recruitment, and social introductions. On Bid Day, each girl is given a letter containing their assigned sorority, and then everyone runs to their newly assigned sorority house. From there, each new member is welcomed and celebrated as they start a new, exciting chapter in life.

The emotions of the new members ran rampant on sorority hill.

“I'm so excited. When I first came into Phi Mu, it was like I felt a burst of energy. I'm literally shaking right now, I'm so excited. I literally love everyone here,” said Nora Ellis, a freshman from Alabaster, Alabama, majoring in communications. “I just can't wait. I’m excited to build a sisterhood and get to know everyone here.”

Many others experienced the same excitement about being accepted into their preferred sorority.

“Sorority Recruitment was a great experience,” said Mia Bell, a freshman majoring in graphic design from Phenix City, Alabama. “I went into it just looking to make some friends, but I honestly got so much more out of that.

“I am so glad I decided to go through Recruitment. I have learned so much about what it means to be a sorority woman and I have met so many sisters that inspire me to better myself and instill confidence into me, and they mean the world to me. On Bid Day, I ran home to Chi Omega and I was on top of the world! I knew Chi O was home the first time I went into the house and I cannot see myself anywhere else.”

For the recruitment leaders, Rush Week and Bid Day is a special time, reminiscent of their own experience.

“Bid day is the most memorable day for any girl that has gone through the recruitment process! It's the day of relief and excitement, you finally found your people to run home to,” said Morgan Bundy, Recruitment Chair of Chi Omega, and senior exercise science major from Banks, Alabama. “It's the feeling of new beginnings and new friendships.

“My own bid day experience was so much fun! As soon as I opened my card and saw Chi Omega, I couldn't wait to see who I would run home to. The girls were so excited to see me at the house, and that meant the world to me.”

Bundy wants to remind new members of the most important parts of sisterhood.

“Most important thing to remember during recruitment and carrying over to bid day is to be your true and honest self! We have your back through good times and bad. No matter what a sister is dealing with or is celebrating, we are there for each other.”
