
After transferring to Troy in the offseason, first baseman Blake Cavill has made waves in his first seven games with the Boys of Troy.
In his debut weekend with the Trojans, Cavill recorded five hits with seven RBIs and four runs.
“I love it,” said Troy first baseman Blake Cavill after Troy’s opening weekend sweep against the Bellarmine Knights. “I had a great weekend.”
In last weekend’s series against the Northwestern State Demons, Cavill recorded seven hits, six RBIs, and five runs, including a new career high of four hits.
“I just got a lot of fastballs tonight which I was really thankful for,” said Cavill after going 4-5 Friday night. “I was just sitting fastball every time and they kept giving it to me.”
In Saturday’s game against the Demons, Cavill matched his season high in RBIs with four RBIs at five at bats. He credited his teammates for the opportunity to drive so many runs across.
“I have Sean Darnell and Steven Meier in front of me at every at bat,” said Cavill after Saturday’s game. “Every time I look up there’s runners on second and third.”
In Sunday’s series finale, Cavill drew three walks to extend his on base streak to 14 games.
Tuesday night against the No. 18 Mississippi State Bulldogs, Cavill drew an RBI walk to help lead the Trojans to a 6-5 win at Dudy Noble Field.
Cavill, a Sydney, Australia native, formerly played alongside the Savannah Bananas, an exhibition barnstorming baseball team hailing from Savannah, Georgia.
“When you play baseball overseas you get a lot of opportunities,” said Cavill. “I got to end up playing with the Bananas, which was an incredible experience for someone like me.”
While in Sydney, Cavill attended Holsworthy High School where he lettered in rugby, cricket and volleyball and received sportsman of the year. He also played for the Sydney Blue Sox, learning from the best players in the country – Cavill shared a team with current Cleveland Guardians top prospect Travis Bazzana and MLB great Manny Ramirez.
Cavill got his United States collegiate start with Northwest Florida State, where he tallied 119 hits, 17 doubles, 21 home runs, 80 RBIs and 89 runs scored across two years while also being named to the All-Panhandle Conference First Team his sophomore year.
Cavill would head to Western Kentucky for his junior season. He would lead the Hilltoppers with 19 doubles while also tallying eight home runs, 47 RBIs and 48 runs scored. With the Hilltoppers Cavill would also be named CUSA Hitter of the Week on Feb. 26.
Following a midweek contest against UAB, Blake Cavill and the Trojans will be back in action for a home series against Penn this weekend.
