Meet senior transfer linebacker Brendan Jackson, who has been tearing it up on the defensive side of the ball all year long.
The linebacker has been a prominent force in the overall improvement of the defense as the season has progressed. In the Battle for the Belt rivalry game, Jackson accounted for 10 tackles, including 4.5 tackles for loss. The 4.5 TFLs were only .5 short of a Troy single game record.
Jackson has been a game wrecker for Troy this season. He has 45 total tackles and leads the team in tackles for loss with nine. The 45 tackles are second on the team only behind Jordan Stringer.
The Statesboro, Georgia, native did not start in the spotlight. Jackson was a zero star recruit out of high school and instead worked his way up to the Division I level.
He started his college career at Division II Savannah State, where he earned conference newcomer of the week after a stellar performance against Kentucky State. In the game against Kentucky State, Jackson posted seven tackles, one sack, one tackle for loss, and a forced fumble.
Jackson finished his freshman season with the Tigers with 37 total tackles, four tackles for loss, and one sack. He led a defense that was ranked seventh in the country among Division II schools.
After his freshman season at Savannah State, Jackson transferred to FCS Gardner-Webb. While at Gardner-Webb, Jackson earned All-Conference honors following his 2023 campaign.
Through two seasons with the Runnin’ Bulldogs, the linebacker tallied 78 total tackles, 15 tackles for loss, and six sacks. He also worked on the offensive side of the ball quite often, scoring two rushing touchdowns for Gardner-Webb.
As a transfer, Jackson was listed as a 3-star recruit. Jackson transferred to a linebacker needy Troy team, becoming one of many senior leaders. His work ethic exemplified throughout his career has been a great role model to the younger players on Troy’s defense.
