Brianna Jackson gets fired up during Troy’s game against Old Dominion.
Meet senior transfer forward Brianna “Mo” Jackson. The 6-foot-3 forward from Virginia Beach, Virginia, dominated on the glass this week, securing 22 rebounds against Old Dominion and nine against Kent State.
“I talked to my mom before the game against ODU,” said Jackson in an interview with Troy Athletics. “She told me not to take it personally and just go out there and play like I normally play.
“To know I have a team and coach that has my back feels good.”
Where did Jackson begin her career before making her presence felt on Troy’s team? She has had several stops in her career, from Miami to Oklahoma State to even Old Dominion.
Jackson was listed as a four star recruit out of Princess Anne High School in Virginia. She was named to the All-State first team in 2018 and was the Tidewater player of the year that same season.
After her graduation in 2019, Jackson signed with Miami. As a freshman, she led the Hurricanes’ freshman class in scoring (4.9), rebounding (4.5), steals (30) and field goal percentage. Her 50%field goal percentage was second on the team.
During her sophomore season, Jackson only played ten games averaging 3.5 points and 2.6 rebounds. This season was cut short due to the Covid-19 outbreak, and Jackson entered the transfer portal.
For the 2021-22 season, Jackson found a home at a familiar opponent, Old Dominion. ODU was still a member of Conference USA and had not joined the Sun Belt Conference yet in 2021.
Jackson averaged 7.3 points and 5.2 rebounds per game her junior year. She was also fifth in the CUSA with 1.44 blocks per game.
ODU joined the Sun Belt for the 2022-23 season and Jackson’s numbers saw a significant increase. For her senior year, she scored a total of 217 points while leading the team in rebounds with 153. Her season high of 19 points came against Appalachian State on Feb. 16, 2023. Jackson played against Troy in the 2022-23 Sun Belt Tournament in Pensacola, Florida, where the Monarchs defeated the Trojans 86-83 in the quarterfinal round.
Jackson made one final stop in Stillwater, Oklahoma, for her fifth year, but her time there was short lived. She stepped away from Oklahoma State’s program after four games and began looking for a new home for her final year of eligibility.
Jackson returned to the Sun Belt after Coach Rigby and her staff reached out to offer her a new home in Troy. So far this season, Jackson has averaged 8.1 points per game and 6.9 rebounds which are both career high marks for the sixth-year senior. Her 22 rebounds versus her former team rank second most in Troy’s Division I history for a single game.
Jackson and the rest of the Trojans return to action Wednesday versus ULM and Saturday versus Southern Miss. Both games will be played at home in Trojan Arena, where Troy is 7-1 on the season.
