The Troy University Black Student Union (BSU) made a splash on the TC Patio last Thursday with their ‘Dunk a BSU member’ event.
Students were able to support and fund BSU by participating in this fun and engaging fundraiser. The event allowed students to dump a bucket of water for $3 or a cooler for $7 on their favorite BSU members.
“We’re trying to get everybody to engage,” said Symone Sanks, fundraising chair of BSU and a senior exercise science major from Columbus, Georgia. “You know it’s hot outside, so before it gets cold, we want everybody to at least have a little summertime fun.
“Everybody is out here just having a good time and meeting new people.”
The organization aimed to create an exciting and welcoming atmosphere to draw in supporters. BSU was also hoping to encourage positive engagement within the community.
The funds from this event will go towards many upcoming events held by the organization.
For National Recovery Month, the organization will be supporting recovering addicts with their Cards for a Cause event.
.“We’re basically writing cards, encouraging cards, to the rehab facilities,” said Aubree Jones, president of BSU and a junior biomedical science major from Fort Mitchell, Alabama.
Jones encouraged the community to support them by getting involved in their upcoming events.
“We’re trying to get BSU back up and running, so any events that we have, just continue to support and show up,” Jones said. “Really, we are just promoting, getting our organization more out there.”
