Bulldogs maul the Trojans

The Trojan baseball team hit the road Tuesday night, April 14, and fell to the Bulldogs of Samford University in a devastating 13-2 loss.

Troy struggled from the very beginning when freshman designated hitter Austin Edens sparked the Bulldogs offense with a RBI double down the third base line.

At the end of the first inning, Troy was already behind by a score of 3-0.

The Trojans did have a slight glimpse of hope in the top of the third inning when they scored their only two runs of the game on a pair of sacrifice fly balls by junior right fielder Logan Hill and freshman designated hitter Reid Long.

However, the Bulldogs ran away with the game after scoring in the third, fourth, sixth, and seventh innings.

Samford put together a total of 14 hits, including three home runs, to help put the game out of reach while Troy accumulated only eight hits and had nine Trojans strike out.

The loss was given to senior pitcher Ben Tidwell who gave up six hits and struck out two batters in his three innings of work. The loss knocked Tidwell down to 0-2 on the season.

Troy will be back in action on Friday, April 17, at 6:30 p.m. in Texas against UT-Arlington in another weekend conference series.
