Cano leads women’s golf to 10th-place finish in Kennesaw

The Troy women’s golf team started in 13th place but climbed a few spots to finish 10th at the Hennsler Financial Intercollegiate on Tuesday.

The three-round tournament, hosted by Kennesaw State, featured 12 top-100 teams, including the No. 91 Trojans. They were led by Fátima Cano, whose strong second round propelled her into a tie for fourth in the individual standings.

Also finishing in the top 20 for Troy was Bianca Lohbauer who laid claim to a tie for 18th with a 6-over 222 score.

There was a little more distance between Cano, Lohbauer and the rest of the Trojans on the course as Gabi Oubre, Becca Horner and Bria Jansen rounded out the field. Oubre shot a 1-under 71 in the second round, but it wasn’t enough to overcome a tough first and third rounds. She finished in a tie for 44th.

Horner’s best round was also the second as she shot 3-over. She finished in 75th place with a final score of 22-over 238. Jansen similarly struggled over the course of the two-day event, finishing in 80th.

The Trojans will have a short break before a five-day stretch of competition as they travel to Athens, Georgia, to play in the Liz Murphey Collegiate hosted by Georgia over the weekend. Immediately after that, they play in Mercer’s The Brickyard Collegiate.
