Cross country snaps backafter 8k/6k meet scratched

After weather canceled the Huntingdon 8K/6K during the last week of September, the Troy cross country teams joined the Georgia Tech Cross Country Invitational. The men’s team finished in sixth place while the women’s side slotted in at ninth place.

A rainy few days led to a muddy course in Fairburn, Georgia, but the weather cleared up for beautiful conditions on race day.

Plenty of personal records were broken, as six out of seven runners for the women’s team set new marks and three members of the men’s team broke personal records.

In the men’s 8K, the Trojans had a cluster of runners placing in the 40-60 range. Troy placed sixth against runners from schools including South Alabama, Georgia Tech, Emory and Florida State.

Lane Watson led the way in 42nd place, timing in at 27:04.85. Watson’s time was about five seconds faster than what he ran in the Southern Showcase earlier this season.

Patterson Graham, Riley Treadaway and Gavan Baxley finished in 53rd, 56th and 57th, respectively. Graham ran a 27:28.90, while Treadaway finished in 27:36.90.

Baxley ran a 27:39.30 8K, shaving 30 seconds off his previous best time. Caleb Locklin set a personal record after clocking in at 28:38.60.

The Trojan women placed ninth in the 6K against Sun Belt Conference foes South Alabama and Georgia Southern, plus in-state opponent UAB.

Alexiana Hinote led the team from 24th place, finishing with a time of 23:14.40. Lucy Turley wasn’t far behind, running the 6K in 23:18.20 to get 27th place.

Reece Knowlton rounded out third place on the team with a time of 24:20.70, coming in at 56th place overall.

Among the other Trojans who set personal bests were Abigail Carr, Abigail Brown and Aisley McMeen.

The Trojans cross country teams have one more meet in the regular season. Troy travels to Tallahassee, Florida, on Friday for the FSU XC Invitational before the Sun Belt Championship in November.
