Crowder, Swartz impress at Fan Day

Updated: Aug 23

Troy football gave fans a sneak peek at the team with their annual Fan Day event last Saturday. Not only did attendees get to watch players on the field, but they were also able to be on the field themselves to get autographs and meet the players, cheerleaders and mascots following the scrimmage.

The Trojans appeared strong in the final showcase of fall camp. Tight end Trae Swartz was the star of the day on the field, as he came away with two touchdowns.

Troy fans also got to take a look at the newly named starting quarterback, Goose Crowder. Amidst the many changes over the offseason, Goose has found his role as a leader of the team and hopes to help pursue a third consecutive Sun Belt title.

“I think the goals are still the same,” Crowder said. “I’m just taking it day-by-day and trying to be the best leader I can be.”

After the action, sophomore safety Justin Powe was surprised to see his parents on the field as his teammates gathered around to present him with an athletic scholarship. Head coach Gerad Parker praised Powe for his hard work.

“I told [Powe] that he’s earned it,” Parker said. “He put in the work, and to surprise him felt pretty special.”

Parker knows the importance of an event like Fan Day.

“The people thrive around this time of the year, coming to watch us play,” Parker said. “Anytime we get a chance to spin back and let them connect with our players beyond the helmets and numbers is just a way for them to see who we are as people.”

With Fan Day over, so is fall camp. Now, the Trojans will get their final preparations in for the start of the season. The Men of Troy and their new head coach will take to the field for the first time this season against Nevada on Aug. 31 at Veterans Memorial Stadium.
