Dasinger leaves, Schmidt takes over senior vice chancellor of student services

Zach HensonEditor-in-Chief Troy University will again be welcoming Dr. John Schmidt as senior vice chancellor for student services and administration in May, as Dr. Royce “Hank” Dasinger returns to the U.S. Air Force at the end of April. Schmidt will be filling the position May 6, but this is not the first time he’s held it. He came to Troy for the first time in 1994, following a 25-year career in the U.S. Marine Corps. In his 20-year stint at Troy, Schmidt held multiple senior vice chancellor positions, heading offices for advancement and external relations and offices for student services. In the roles, he pushed for programs to help students gain success through their academic and social lives and for Troy to adopt a culture more heavily focused on reading. Schmidt retired in 2014 after serving Troy for 20 years. Dasinger, an Air Force veteran, is taking over the role of dean of the Community College of the Air Force after serving Troy for three years. He came to Troy in 2016 and advanced to his current role in 2018. “Troy University has benefited from Dr. Dasinger’s experience and leadership skills, both in the College of Education and in his role as a member of our Senior Leadership Team,” said Dr. Jack Hawkins, Jr., Chancellor. “Hank will be missed, but we wish him well as he turns his attention back to educating the men and women of the USAF.” According to Dasinger, he has a passion for education and has served as the president of Ingram State Technical College and in several positions as the U.S. Air Force’s Air University. “Helping students and professionals grow as leaders is my passion, and I am grateful for the chance to carry out this mission alongside the staff and faculty of Troy University,” Dasinger said. “I am thankful for my time at TROY, but I am excited about this new opportunity to meet the educational needs of the Air Force’s enlisted personnel.”
