Deli Spot looks for musicians

Ty Davidson

Recently, Momma Goldberg’s Deli started searching for musicians to play live, hoping to foster a fun and casual environment for students and residents. “We just want to support local artists and have something to draw customers in with a source of entertainment since I know a lot of students like to listen to live music,” said  Kaylin Cichocki, assistant manager at Momma Goldberg’s Deli. “We’ve had live music in the past, but it has just been a while since the last time we had some, and we’re looking to start back up.”

Those who have never been to Momma Goldberg’s might be unaware that there’s more to the shop than just deli sandwiches and a place to sit and eat.

“We also have pool tables and stuff; plus, we serve alcohol,” Cichocki said. “People can come in and just hangout, so we’re trying to draw people into that aspect of Momma Goldbergs.”

However, Momma Goldberg’s has faced some challenges in this search for live musicians, hindering its efforts to build Momma Goldberg’s into the fun, local hangout spot that it has the potential to be.

“It's honestly been a little bit difficult,” Cichocki said. “There are only a few people we know in Troy that play live music and they’re pretty booked up.

“We’re starting to expand the search to people who have never played live music who want to get a start and do it for the first time.”

While that proposition could be slightly scary for those who are interested in playing live but lack any sort of experience, it’s also the perfect opportunity for the novice to dip their feet into the water.

Any live musicians, new or experienced, who are interested in playing a set at Momma Goldberg’s Deli can contact (334) 808-1181 or simply walk in and ask about opportunities. The deli is located in Downtown Troy.
