Does "Cowboy Carter" hold em?

Beyoncé’s new country album, “Cowboy Carter,” is already topping the country charts; it’s time for Troy students to weigh in: does this album have the GRIT to hold up?

Adding to her many accomplishments, Beyoncé has now become the first black woman to top the country charts, making “Cowboy Carter” her eighth album to top charts.  She has three songs at the top of the charts right now, with “TEXAS HOLD ‘EM” peaking at number one on the charts with several others breaking into the top ten.

The album has gained popularity not just on the charts, but also on Tik Tok and other social media platforms as well, with the lead single “TEXAS HOLD ‘EM” becoming a frequently used soundbite.

“It was a lot different from her past albums, but it didn’t take long for me to get into the music,” said Josh Clements, a sophomore music industry major from Greenville, Alabama. “It really did a good job at catching my attention and it kept me engaged through the whole album.”

“I liked the album, and I think it was really different from her other stuff, and I love when artists experiment with their music,” said Hailey Alcathie, a junior English/language arts education major from Daphne, Alabama. “It’s not my favorite album of hers, but a few of the songs have definitely been added to my music rotation.

“I think she’s definitely got a voice that works well for country. Beyonce has mastered the other genres she’s done; I think with time and practice she could do exceptionally well in country.”

“I thought it was genre breaking and amazing,” said Emma Steverson, a junior English language arts education major from Sylacauga, Alabama. “She is amazing and she can honestly do what she wants.

She can hold a candle to other country artists I listen to.”

“Cowboy Carter” is overall very well-liked by the general public, with a few notable songs of the twenty-seven on the album.

“Cowboy Carter” is out now on all streaming platforms.
