Troy University recently lowered the cost of dual enrollment classes for high school students who qualify for in-state tuition.

Taking effect this month, the cost has been lowered by more than $100 per credit hour. For in-state students, the cost will decrease to $33 per credit hour from the previous cost of $145 per credit hour.

“Troy University is enhancing access to higher education for high school students by offering affordable college-level courses,” said Senior Vice Chancellor of Student Services and Administration Sohail Agboatwala. “This initiative gives students a valuable head start on their academic journey, allowing them to save time and money as they work toward their degrees.

“By prioritizing accessibility and quality, Troy reaffirms its dedication to empowering learners and building stronger connections with our communities.”

All Alabama residents, along with counties in Florida and Georgia that border the Alabama state line, qualify for in-state tuition.

Dual enrollment at Troy is available to homeschool and private school students as well as students in the 10th, 11th and 12th grade from regionally accredited high schools who have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher.

Students must score at least a 20 on the ACT, a 1030 on the SAT or provide a letter of recommendation from a high school administrator to apply.

To take a math or English course, ACT, SAT or placement test scores are required.

“The affordability of our dual enrollment program provides quality educational opportunities to students who might not have the financial ability to take college-level courses otherwise,” said Director of Dual Enrollment KeLeigh Pritchett. “Troy University prioritizes student success and strives to collaborate with outside partners to provide quality and engaging real-world learning experiences.

“Our instructors believe in student-centered learning which provides our dual enrollment students with a positive outlook on the entire collegiate experience.”

Composition and modern English, finite math, introduction to business, introduction to psychology and more are included in the popular courses. Courses available to students include any 1,000-level or 2,000-level course as long as the prerequisite requirements are met.

“If we create that pathway, then many students in high schools will learn about Troy and will find out what we already know,” said Chancellor Dr. Jack Hawkins, Jr. “We believe that pathway will lead many of those students to decide to study with us either on campus or online.

“We currently enroll almost 300 dual enrollment students. We think by the fall, that could triple, and from there we think it will continue to grow.”
