The Troy softball team is off to a great start for its season as the team is fourth in the Sun Belt Conference standings only behind Marshall, Louisiana and South Alabama.
The Trojans are coming off a weekend where they hosted No. 25 Texas State Bobcats and won two out of three matchups.
On Saturday, pitcher Leanna Johnson struck out nine batters, walked four and gave up seven hits in her time in the circle. She snuck away with the win even though she gave up six runs. The Brantley, Alabama, native ended the weekend one win short of becoming Troy’s all-time leader in wins. She is also 24 strikeouts away from hitting the 1,000 mark.
Johnson leads the nation with 17 wins this season while also being the DI leader in shutouts and complete games.
The Trojans utilized their home field advantage with the series win over No. 25 Texas State and will continue to do so as they welcomed the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets on Wednesday.
