Shayne Wasden, Troy’s former associate head coach of the football team, has been hired as the new head coach at Faulkner University in Montgomery, the university announced Wednesday.
The hire will become effective Friday, when he will take over an Eagles program that finished the 2017-2018 season with a 7-3 overall record and a 4-1 in the Mid-South Conference. The news comes following the program’s Dec. 18 announcement that four-year head coach Charlie Boren would retire.
Wasden spent 12 years with the Trojans in a number of different positions, including special teams coordinator. Prior to his collegiate coaching, Wasden amassed a 91-34 in 11 seasons as a high school head coach in Alabama.
“I am honored and extremely excited to be given this opportunity,” Wasden said. “My staff and I plan to continue to build this program, win games and ultimately win championships. More important than winning, however, are the Christian principles and values that this university was founded on that our student-athletes will represent both on and off the field.
“We want to create an environment that produces Christ-centered young men that leave this university and have a positive impact on society. I look forward to working with the administration, faculty and students to make Faulkner football all that it can be.”
