Five films will be featured in the 28th annual George Lindsey Film Festival

Five films made by Troy University design students were named as Official Selections in the 28th annual George Lindsey Film Festival, held by the University of North Alabama in Florence.
“These films took a lot of time and effort to complete, and every laurel makes it that much more worth it,” said Nathan Hobbs, a Troy University alumnus from Black, Alabama, who will have his film, “CAIN,” featured at the festival. “George Lindsey is especially exciting because it’s a local Alabama festival, which is really cool.
“I’m super proud of all these films and the team that helped me do what I’ve always wanted.”
Each film selected for the festival covers a wide range of topics. With the help of eight high school students who attended the 2024 Summer Film Camp, Reanna Thompson’s film, “Killer Hand,” was directed and produced by her as well as fellow classmate Laken Lee.
“This is my first, but not last, big win as a filmmaker; I can promise you that,” Thompson said, who is a Troy University alumna from Panama City, Florida. “It was so much fun working with the high school students who participated, and I cannot wait for this year’s summer camp.”
George Lindsey is well known for being the host of Turner South’s Emmy award-winning “Liars & Legends.” Lindsey’s role of Goober Pyle on the “Andy Griffith Show” and many other credits in television make him a celebrated entertainer. Lindsey’s television career includes episodes of “Hee Haw,” “The Twilight Zone,” “The Alfred Hitchcock Hour,” “Gunsmoke” and “M*A*S*H.”
Along with Lindsey, now-deceased communications professor Bobby Hurt and retired Office of Communications Director Bill Jarnigain founded this festival.
“The films selected by UNA are the best of the best from our department – a combination of thesis projects and passion projects from our students,” said Chris Stagl, associate professor of design. “I could not be happier with the films chosen.”
Three other students will have their short film featured during the festival as well. These include “I’m Living In Your Attic” by Howard Purvee, “Happy Birthday Greg” by Studio 207 and “Paranoia” by Zack Pappanastos.
The film festival will be held from Feb. 27 through March 1. To learn more visit http://www.lindseyfilmfest.com/.
