Troy football kicks off conference play against ULM on Saturday at Veterans Memorial Stadium.
The Warhawks enter The Vet with a 2-1 record, their only loss coming at top-ranked Texas.
Last season, ULM finished with a disappointing record of 2-10, losing their last ten games.
The team will be trying to get off of that course this week.
Troy won’t be the only team with a first-year coach on the sideline this week. Bryant Vincent will get his first taste of Sun Belt Conference football on the sidelines for ULM.
Vincent was hired in December 2023 after serving as the offensive coordinator for New Mexico previously.
Offensively, the Warhawks are led by Oklahoma transfer quarterback General Booty. Booty has been off to a slow start, with only one touchdown in the first four games. Running back Ahmad Hardy will have to be relied on for the Warhawks to put together efficient drives.
Wydett Williams Jr. commands the defense for ULM. He’s managed to put together 29 tackles and two interceptions already, including a pick against Texas quarterback Arch Manning.
The Trojans are riding high off their first win of the season, and coach Gerad Parker’s first career victory. Devonte Ross and Goose Crowder shined in the previous week and will need to do so again on Saturday.
With Crowder and center Eli Russ both returning last week, the questions surrounding the offense have seemingly subsided. A few awkward snaps occasionally affected the team’s rhythm on drives and could still be a factor if Russ is not 100%.
Last season, Troy won in Monroe, Louisiana, by a dominating score of 45-14. The Warhawks are seeking revenge in hopes of ending a two-game skid against the Trojans. Troy leads the all-time series 12-8 in a rivalry that dates back to 1970.
Despite a losing record, everything goes back to square one when conference play begins. Troy will begin its pursuit for a third consecutive Sun Belt title against the Warhawks on Saturday at 6:30 on ESPN+.
