Former Trojan goes pro

Aamer Muhammad signs a contract to play for BC Barsy Atyrau in Kazakhstan

Former Troy men’s basketball guard Aamer Muhammad signed a deal to play professionally for BC Barsy Atyrau in Kazakhstan.

“I feel like this is the right fit.”, Muhammad said. . “This will be a good experience for me, and a great opportunity to start my professional career.”

BC Barsy Atyrau competes in the Kazakhstan Basketball Championship, where the team was the runner-up in the league last season. The club is located in the city of Atyrau in west Kazakhstan.

Muhammad spent the last two seasons with the Trojans, helping guide them to back-to-back 20-plus win seasons. He averaged 11.3 points last season, making him the third best scorer on the team.

“Troy helped me in bringing out leadership skills and being disciplined not just on the court, but in the classroom as well,” Muhammad said. “I believe those skills will transfer over to my pro career and ultimately get me to where I want to go in life.”

Muhammad’s signing marks the second player from the Trojans 2023-24 basketball team to sign to a professional team. Christyon “Spudd” Eugene signed earlier this summer to play for CS Rapid București in Romania.

Aamer will leave for Kazakhstan in the coming weeks. The season will begin shortly after his arrival, with Barcy’s next game being September 13.

Both of Troy’s seniors from last season are now heading overseas, and they will leave big shoes to fill for those still on the team. Players like Myles Rigsby and Thomas Dowd will look to fill that gap. The Troy men’s basketball season tips off against Toledo on Nov. 4 in Trojan Arena.
