Get on board with Boar’s Head

Boar’s Head is one of my favorite hotspots to eat on campus. They have it all!

Craving a scrumptious sandwich? Desiring a succulent salad? Wanting some savory soup? Go on down to Boar’s Head.

Before entering the front doors, my companion and I had already decided what we were going to order: the “student’s choice” Jerk Turkey Ranch sandwich for her and a simple chicken-and-provolone sandwich for me.

Boar’s Head won me over a few months ago when I found out they had a “build your sandwich” option. Allowing students to pick their choice of meat, cheese, condiments and toppings is becoming an increasingly popular option.

So, I decided to satisfy my hunger with chicken breast, provolone cheese, lettuce and mayonnaise on twelve-grain bread.

Hide ya’ bread, hide ya’ cheese

Upon ordering my sandwich of choice, I was met with an unsatisfactory comment: “I’m sorry ma’am, but we’re out of provolone cheese and twelve-grain bread.”

Much to my disappointment, this statement was not news to me, as I have heard those words before. I reluctantly settled for cheddar cheese on wheat bread.

Despite not getting what I originally wanted, I was satisfied with the sandwich I was delivered, as was my companion, who was satisfied with her sandwich. Both of our sandwiches were aesthetically pleasing. We both agreed that our bread was “toasted to perfection.” My cheddar was appropriately melted, and the lettuce was characterized by a fresh crisp.

“The bacon on my sandwich was a great addition to the turkey and Monterey cheese,” said my companion. “It couldn’t have been made any better.”

We both agreed to rate the taste of our meals as a 9 out of 10.

Boar’s long-wait-a-Head

Seemingly always understaffed, having a short wait-time at Boar’s Head is a rarity.  From the moment you walk in the door to when you place your order is usually relatively brief; however, from placing your order to actually receiving your order can take upwards of 15 minutes.

Our total wait this time was about 16 minutes, with 12 of those minutes passing after we placed our order.

The interaction we had with the staff, though, almost made the long wait worth it. My companion and I always have enjoyable conversations with the ladies at Boar’s Head.

“They are courteous and engaging with all of their customers,” said my companion.

The rating for our wait time coupled with our staff interaction is a 7 out of 10.

Overall Experience

Overall, we had a wonderful experience at Boar’s Head – as usual.  Because it is one of the more reliable places to eat at Troy University, I wouldn’t be shocked to see the business at Boar’s Head soar next year.

Their staff is friendly, their menu is varied and their food is delectable. What’s not to love?

Our total rating for this outing at Boar’s Head is a solid 8.5 out of 10. We gladly recommend Boar’s Head to any student looking for a simple but delicious meal.

Fan-taste-ic job, Boar’s Head!
