Fangmeyer shoots fifth-lowest round in University history,
women’s golf finishes third
Laura Fangmeyer etched her name into Troy’s record books after shooting the fifth-lowest round in Troy’s history. The junior from Tulln, Austria shot five under par on the final round, of the Green Wave Invitational to finish second overall individually and power the Trojans into a third-place finish.
Troy finished third with a team score of 19 over par. The Trojans had three individuals finish in the top 10. Junior Victoria Stutts finished in eighth place after shooting four over par in her Troy debut, and senior Alyssa Mercado finished in 10th place after shooting five over.
The second round of the tournament was critical in Troy’s finish. The Trojans moved from first place to fourth after shooting 14 over par in the second round. However, Troy bounced back by shooting even in the third round to move into third place after Fangmeyer’s historic round.
In-state rival South Alabama finished first overall with a score of 12 over par. All four of the Jaguars’ participants finished in the top 15 and Malia Uyeshiro led the way finishing in fourth place.
Jordan Fischer took home the individualist medal after finishing the tournament with a score of five under par. Fischer was one of two individual participants from LSU and finished the Green Wave Invitational strong by shooting a four under 68.
The Trojans don’t play again for almost three more weeks. Troy’s next tournament is the Pirate Collegiate Classic in Greenville, North Carolina on Sept. 30 and Oct. 1.
