The Troy Trojans softball season began this past weekend as the Trojans played host to the Trojan Classic. The Trojans took on two teams: SIUE and Belmont.
Southern Illinois suffered back-to-back losses as the Trojans defeated them by multiple runs. The Trojans won the first game 4-0 and the following game 2-1.
Belmont gave Troy a run for its money, leading to losses in both games. After the second game was rescheduled due to rain, the Trojans seemed to have a lack of stamina Sunday morning while wrapping up the weekend. Belmont only allowed Troy to score two runs in both games which led to the Trojans losing.
The Trojans pitcher, Libby Baker, a junior at Troy, supplied the team with two home runs during the Trojan Classic.
This year’s season consists of 24 conference games throughout the South, leading up to the Sun Belt Championship.
The Trojans will be competing in the Trojan Invitational this upcoming weekend at the Troy Softball Complex. Kennesaw State and Murray State will play Troy over the course of the weekend.
The Trojans look to have a good chance of ending the weekend with victories that will help motivate them throughout this season.
