Hoopcoming announced

The Student Government Association discussed upcoming senator elections, which will be held on Jan. 28 in Trojan Center Room 215. The elections will run from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Each position represents the colleges and dorms. Positions for colleges include the College of Education, the College of Communication and Fine Arts and the College of Health and Human Services.

“We’ve got all sorts of seats open for residence halls,” Maxwell Herman, a junior hospitality management major from Panama City Beach, Florida, said. “They include Cowart, Clements, Hamil, Pace, Gardner and Sorority Hill.”

Applicants must have a 2.6 GPA. Applications are due by Jan. 23 at 4 p.m. and must be submitted at the SGA Office in Trojan Center Room 213.

SGA also voted to amend the code of laws, moving executive elections to Feb. 25 and runoff elections to March 4.

Freshman Forum also announced plans to have a spring event called “Hoopcoming.”

Hoopcoming will be held on Feb. 12 during halftime of the Troy vs. South Alabama basketball game. Organizations will be able to nominate a male candidate for an eating contest.

“We’ll have a bunch of different games,” said Olivia Melton, a sophomore mathematics and economics major from Gulf Shores and Freshman Forum director. “We’ll have a raffle and a promo video that we’ll shoot of all the candidates.”

There will also be a fundraising opportunity associated with the Hoopcoming event. “Two days before the event, each nominee will have a bucket in TC,” Melton said. “The person who has the most money in their bucket will be able to take all the money from all the buckets and donate it to the local organization of their choice.”

Cody Ash, director of IMPACT and special programs, announced the availability of IMPACT leader applications. The position is open to anyone who wants to apply. Each applicant must have a 2.2 GPA and is preferred to have leadership skills and have been involved with the student body and community.

A resume is required with the application, and there will be two rounds of interviews. “Being an impact leader is seriously one of the best experiences you guys could have,” Ash said.

Applications are available in Ash’s office in Adams Administration Room 111.
