Having a job while in college is a challenge many students face, and having a successful job interview is crucial. Troy Career Services held a job interview simulation on Wednesday for Troy University students to help alleviate some of the anxiety going into job interviews.
“The Job Interview Simulation is a great opportunity to network and refine their interview skills, said MacKenzie Taylor, project advisor for student services.
“This event is entitled ‘Job Interview Simulation’ because we are going beyond a typical mock interview by simulating a 30-minute interview with a real employer.”
Students who participated received one-on-one feedback from employers on not only their interview, but also their resume.
According to career services, preparedness is essential because it ensures that an individual is ready to handle unexpected challenges, minimizing risks and maximizing the ability to respond effectively, which is one of the many ways this mock interview can help students.
“Our desire is to ensure students are able to showcase their strengths and skills to employers as they prepare to enter the workforce,” says Arminda McKee, assistant director of student career services.
Students were given a formal mock interview with a real-life employer.
Students who registered on Handshake were guaranteed a one-on-one spot with an interviewer.
Each interview lasted approximately 30 minutes, and business attire as well as a resume was required. Those unable to attend can schedule a mock interview through the Office of Career Services.
Mock interviews are usually held by the Student Career Services Department by appointment, but this was the first ever campus-wide mock interview.
The benefits of the simulation included interview preparedness, real-time feedback, exposure to employees, and an increase in confidence for those who attended.
