IAC Prepares for a new semester

The International Arts Center is preparing for the semester ahead, planning around its rotating exhibits and artist events for students to enjoy.

“Anytime we have activities or events, we're always trying to gear it towards what would benefit students in our community. because we do have this outreach to the community,” said Carrie Jaxon, the director of the IAC.

The IAC is home to a variety of rotating and permanent exhibits, including the long-standing Nall Museum and the rotating exhibit “Liminal” by Troy professor Sara Dismukes.

Additionally, the IAC has planned artist talks and events for students to attend, where students can get a better understanding of the art inside the IAC.

“We have seven rotating exhibits a year, so you can always come back and see something new, and honestly, if you walk around that permanent exhibits, you're always going to find something new,” Jackson said.

Alongside their rotating and permanent exhibits, the IAC is home to many events surrounding art and design for the surrounding community.

One of the IAC’s recurring events is ArtSPARK, where once a month families can take part in family-friendly activities themed around current IAC exhibits and featured artists.

“There are some students that have families with children, so we have this monthly program,” Jaxon said. “We have a lot of fun, there's art activities, scavenger hunts, snacks, story time – you name it.”

The IAC has events planned starting next week, centering around the “Liminal” exhibit.

Next week, the IAC will kick off the semester with an artist talk with Dismukes and Kenyon Holder on August 21 at 12:30 p.m. The next day, there will be the closing reception for the exhibit, marking the end of the exhibit’s stay at the IAC.
