Trump sworn in as the 47th President of the United States
After being sworn in, the 47th President took to the podium and gave his second inaugural address. In the speech, Donald Trump elaborated on his vision for America.
“Our top priority will be to create a nation that is proud, prosperous and free,” Trump said. “For American Citizens, January 20th, 2025, is liberation day.”
Throughout the 30-minute speech, the president made promises involving domestic and foreign affairs. Trump also shared his aspirations for America to be the first nation to land on Mars.
Trump declared the influx of migrants at the southern border of the United States a national emergency. To prevent any more migrants from entering the country, Trump revealed his plan to send troops to the border.
As the new Commander-in-Chief, Trump also declared a national energy emergency and informed the nation on his plan to “drill, baby, drill.”
Trump also announced his intentions to immediately sign an executive order that will rename the Gulf of Mexico to the “Gulf of America.”
Timothy McDonald, a junior accounting major from Columbia, Alabama shared his thoughts on the gulf’s renaming.
“The name of the Gulf of Mexico hasn’t caused any problems in the past,” said McDonald. “I don’t really see a point of changing the name.”
Another beacon of the president's speech involved his promise to “restore common sense in America.”
“I will end the government policy of trying to socially engineer race and gender into every aspect of public and private life,” Trump said. “We will forge a society that is color blind and merit based.
“As of today, it will henceforth be the official policy of the United States government that there are only two genders, male and female.”
More of the President’s promises included ending government censorship, bringing law and order back to cities and renaming Mount Denali to Mount McKinley.
Trump expressed his desire to be a peacemaker and a unifier and concluded his speech with a message of hope.
“The future is ours, and the golden age has just begun.”
