If there’s one thing the Troy baseball team does well, it’s scoring runs. In the past 15 games, the Trojans have scored 150 runs.
This offensive explosion has been facilitated by top-to-bottom success in the lineup, and Troy outfielder and designated hitter Kyle Mock has been a key part of that.
The senior from Orlando, Florida, has been on an absolute tear the past few weeks after a quiet start to the season. Mock is second on the team with a 1.062 OPS and has anchored the middle part of the lineup in recent games.
Over the weekend against Georgia State, Mock went a combined 7-for-10, knocking in four runs and drawing five walks for a total on-base percentage of .800 on the series.
Since Troy’s series against Appalachian State, he is a combined 13-for-25 with 10 walks and three home runs.
In the past few weeks, Mock has had a tendency to take over games with multi-hit games. Pitchers have struggled to consistently get him out.
His performance has allowed runs to continue pouring in even when the top of the lineup is struggling. Whether it’s taking a walk or crushing a home run, Mock is constantly contributing.
Last Sunday against the Panthers, the left-handed batter jumped on a pitch and sent it 407 feet over the right-center field wall in a 4-for-4 performance. His double in the fifth inning ignited a two-out rally that ultimately won the game, and the series, for the Trojans.
During a four-run comeback win against App State two weeks ago, Mock hit not one, but two home runs. Even when he’s not hitting home runs, Mock is an on-base machine. He is getting on base .480 of the time this season.
As Troy heads toward the end of the regular season, the key to success will lie with Mock and other hitters throughout the Trojans lineup continuing to rake.
