Lady Trojans Make Strides

JONESBORO, Ark. – Several of Trojans from the women’s indoor track and field team moved up in the all-time rankings list after Friday’s Arkansas Invitational.

 

“Some great strides were made today toward meeting our goals,” said head coach Jill Lancaster.  “Leaders continued to impress in their categories and our team made large strides towards our goals for the end of the year.  The team must continue to grow and improve though.  I am excited to see what we do in Middle Tennessee next week.”

 

Freshman Julia Ostendorf moved to third all-time in the 3000-meter race with a sixth-place time of 10:32.32. Senior Morgan Paulson finished eighth with a time of 10:42.27 to move to sixth in the list.

 

In the 55-meter hurdle preliminaries, senior Jasmine Patton finished fourth with a score of 8.07, and a final time of 8.18 to finish seventh. Senior Ja-Courtney Alexander finished fourth in the preliminaries of the 55-meter dash with a time of 7.27 and finished ninth in the finals with a 7.29. She also competed in the 400-meter dash and finished second with a time of 58.35.

 

In the triple jump event, sophomore Alexus Cobb had a breakthrough day as she moved to seventh all-time with a distance of 11.46 meters. She also scored the fastest time of any Trojan in the 200-meter dash with a time of 26.36. Cobb followed junior Adria Hill who finished 18th in the 200-meter dash with a time of 26.35.

 

Two teams from Troy competed in the 4×400-meter relay race. The first, made up of Ja-Courtney Alexander, Candice Vaughn, Aleeza Kempton and Paige McMillan, finished third with a time of 4:00.11. Team two, who finished 12th with a time of 4:26.36, was comprised of Bree Handy, Alexus Cobb, Amiracle Watson  and Luv Dean.

 

The Trojans will be back in action this weekend when they head to Murfreesboro, Tenn. to compete in the MTSU Invitational.
