Lady Trojans Move up in All-Time Rankings

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – For the second consecutive event, the Troy women’s indoor track and field team saw individuals move up in the all-time rankings after its successful meet this past weekend at the Samford Multi and Invitational.

“We’ve had several Trojans break through this weekend,” said head coach Jill Lancaster.  “Many other Trojans have yet to break through, but are on the edge.  We are excited to see improvement in all of our athletes and can’t wait to get back to training and preparing for the conference championship.”

Friday night’s pentathlon featured three Trojans in senior Jasmine Patton, junior Luv Dean and freshman Carly Wright.

“We had three Trojans step out of their comfort zone tonight to compete in the pentathlon,” said Lancaster.  “The effort was there from all three ladies, and it was a great learning environment for all of those involved.”

After not competing last weekend, Patton came back this week to move to eighth all-time with an eighth place finish and score of 3038. Wright finished with a 2775, while Dean ended with a 2656.

On day two of the event, several Trojans set personal records in the 60-meter hurdles event. Veronica Bryant finished 11th with a time of 9.18 seconds, moving her to eighth on Troy’s all-time list. Lacey Marcus, just a freshman, moved to ninth in the all-time list after finishing 13th with a 9.22. Christina Barrett moved to 10th on the list after finishing 14th with a time of 9.27 seconds.

Senior Ja-Courtney Alexander placed in the finals of the 60-meter dash moving her to third in Sun Belt Conference rankings.  Alexander had a season’s best in the 400-meter with a time of 56.64 seconds placing ninth and moving into fourth in the Sun Belt rankings.

Senior Ashley Hall ran a season’s best in the 400-meter, moving her to sixth all-time.  Hall also competed in the 200-meter for the Trojans finishing with a time of 25.55, advancing her to ninth all-time.

Freshman Aleeza Kempton finished the 400-meter with a time of 59.55, earning her 10th on Troy’s all-time list.  Senior Morgan Paulson competed in the 5000-meter run for the Trojans finishing 9th with a time of 18:20.05, moving her to number two on Troy’s all-time list and ninth in the Sun Belt Conference.  Paulson also competed in the 1-mile race finishing with a time of 5:32.15.
