After a tough loss last week against the North Alabama Lions, the Troy men’s tennis team swept the Alcorn State Braves in two matches on Saturday to move to 7-4.

The Trojans once again struggled in doubles, conceding the doubles point to the Braves after Henrique de Brito and Thiago Drozdowski won 6-2 in the No. 3 spot to give the Trojans a lead.

In the first match, the Trojans swept the Braves in singles with Hiiro Sakamoto, Luciano Alcocer, de Brito and Nicolas Simkin all winning singles points for the Trojans to give them a 4-1 victory in match one.

Troy kept the momentum from the first match with de Brito and Drozdowski winning their doubles match 6-1 before Sakamoto and Alcocer clinched the point with a 6-4 win.

Sakamoto stayed hot in singles, leading the first set 4-0 before his opponent retired from the match.

Vicente Arbelaez and Luciano Alcocer both won their singles matches to secure a 4-0 win for the Trojans.

The Trojans are back in action Friday, Feb. 14 when they head to Birmingham, Alabama, to take on the UAB Blazers after matches against Spring Hill and Mercer were postponed.
