Men’s tennis completes treble

Jack Sturdivant

After taking down the South Carolina State Bulldogs in Orlando, the Troy Men’s

Tennis Team picked up a pair of road wins against the Alabama A&M Bulldogs and the

Alabama State Hornets before defending home court against the Jacksonville State

Gamecocks to earn their third win in five days and extend their win streak to eight

matches in a row dating back to Feb. 8.

The Trojans would kick their week off with a victory against the Alabama State

Bulldogs.

Henrique de Brito/ Yeray Andres Pastor and Luciano Alcocer/Hiiro Sakamoto

would give the Trojans the start they needed with 6-0 and 6-3 wins to grab the doubles

point and an early 1-0 lead.

From there, The Trojans would keep firing on all cylinders as they would win all

but one singles match with Yeray Andres Pastor, Noah Martens, Hiiro Sakamoto,

Henrique de Brito and Luciano Alcocer all winning singles points for the Trojans enroute to a 6-1 win for the Trojans against the Bulldogs.

The Trojans would carry that momentum into Montgomery on Saturday to pick up

a win against the Alabama State Hornets.

Luciano Alcocer and Hiiro Sakamoto would once again help the Trojans in

doubles with a 6-3 win before Noah Martens and Nicolas Simkin would grab a 6-2 win to

give the doubles point to the Trojans with the final match going unfinished.

In singles, Sakamoto, Alcocer and Martens would all win their singles match as

well as Yeray Andres Pastor to secure a 5-2 win for the Trojans against the Hornets.

The Trojans would get their third win in five days when they got back on their

home court and successfully defended it against the Jacksonville State Gamecocks.

Unlike the previous two matches, the Trojans would drop the doubles point

against the Gamecocks.

However, the Trojans would come back with a vengeance against the

Gamecocks, winning all four single matches to snag a 4-1 against the Gamecocks.

In the three-game stretch, Sakamoto and Martens both went undefeated in

singles.

The Trojans are now 13-4 on the season and head to Statesboro, Georgia, to

open conference play against the Georgia Southern Eagles. First serve is set for 12

p.m.
